Horses Futures and Props Betting Rules
Bovada Sportsbook offers fixed odds and futures wagering for the Triple Crown, Breeders' Cup and, on occasion, other Grade I thoroughbred races. Where available, these wagers will be found by clicking Quick Links to the above the entry table (on mobile) and to the left of the entry table (on desktop), then 'Futures and Propositions'. This will take you to the Sportsbook, where the following rules apply to your horse wagers:
1. Wagers are "to win" only and will pay out at the odds at the time you place your wager.
2. Place, Show, and Exotic wagering is not available in the Sportsbook; if you want to make these types of wagers, please go to the Racebook by clicking 'HORSES' at the top of the page.
3. All Wagers have action, with the exception of wagers placed on raceday where Scratched/Non-Runners will have stakes refunded.
4. Any wagers accepted after the official post time will be deemed void.
5. We occasionally offer head-to-head match-ups between horses; both horses must start for these wagers to have action.
6. You cannot parlay bets on horse races.
7. The Dead Heat rule: when you have a multi-outcome prop or event where two winners tie. If a "Dead Heat" is declared on any event, half of the stake is applied to the selection at the full odds and the other half is lost. If more than two "Dead Heat", the stake is proportioned accordingly, not including sports where you can wager on the draw or tie option (i.e., soccer).
8. Rule 4 Deduction – These are deductions made when a horse, or multiple horses are scratched or withdrawn from a race making it easier for the remaining horses in the field to win. Effectively, each horse in the race will have fewer horses to beat, making it more likely that the horse you’ve selected will win.
Deductions are only applied when one or more horses withdraw from a race after your bet has been placed. Deductions under this rule are applied to the winnings you receive when the horse you’ve wagered on wins or places.
The amount of the Rule 4 Deduction is dependent on the likelihood the withdrawn horse would win the race. The table below shows the amount of the deduction based on the price of the selection that has withdrawn.
